On March 23rd, it was announced that AKB48 will be holding their first concert at the famous Tokyo Dome!
This was announced to kick off the opening night of AKB48’s Saitama Super Arena 3-day concert. When the words “Tokyo Dome Concert Decided!” appeared on the screen, the crowd of 25,000 fans let out loud cheers that shook the venue.
The announcement was followed by a video featuring leader Takahashi Minami and
a countdown timer set at ‘1,830M’. Takahashi is seen walking from the
AKB48 Theater and sharing her thoughts about the group. The moment the
countdown reaches ‘1′, she stands directly in front of Tokyo Dome.
‘1,830′
is a significant number for the girls as it represents the distance (in
meters) between AKB48 Theater and their dream. Since their first
performance at AKB48 Theater in December of 2005, the group has aimed to
hold a concert at Tokyo Dome.
The date of their Tokyo Dome concert has not been revealed at this time.
After this surprise announcement, members Maeda Atsuko, Oshima Yuko, Takahashi Minami,Kashiwagi Yuki, Watanabe Mayu, and Kojima Haruna appeared on stage in a gondola with their instruments. They performed their latest single, “GIVE ME FIVE!“, and sang a total of 43 songs with the rest of the group.
AKB48 is also scheduled to hold concerts at Saitama Super Arena on the 24th and 25th.
